Men\’s Fashion: What are the five most iconic elements of style that every man should own?

man fashion

I’m looking for suggestions on what you think are the top five items of style every man should own (e.g. dark blue jeans, white tee shirt, leather bomber jacket, wool top coat, cuff links, etc.) and why. Not necessarily looking for brands (though suggestions are welcome), but a general idea of what every man should own.

The Spice of Life in Fashion

man fashion

The spices of life are more to some and less to others. Contrary to a captain with no hull beneath his deck, but a good steady wind and a pair of Denim flares more befitting a weatherworn sailor feeling his years, to the Far East in search of spices. Time and tide won’t let a sailor sleep.
Now it’s the spices of fashion for men, the rising tide: And, dandyism still contrasting Beau Brummell rejection of 18th century frills, his mandate; a dark blue coat, buff-coloured pantaloons and waistcoat, black boots and a clean white neck cloth.
The modern sailor’s uniform, endures and has remained a popular choice for designers to mimic idiosyncratic characters, a simple uniform to draw inspiration from; each changing style to suit forms and functions.
A little more evidence on how history in fashion repeats itself: Bell bottomed trousers were another ‘icon’ of the square rig uniform. These were practical garments for men who worked sailing ships since they could be rolled up securely to clear the feet and ankles when working the rigging. In common with all other items of a sailor’s kit, trousers were kept folded ready for use in a kit bag. Kept inside out to avoid fluff on the outer surface and to avoid ’shine’ by ironing, they were folded horizontally at about a hand’s width and taped into a rectangular ‘block’. When worn, this produced inverted vertical creases down the side of the leg and five or seven, depending on the height of the wearer, horizontal creases down the leg. In time these were accepted as the thing to have and were pressed firmly into place from the early years of the century. Since the First World War bell bottoms were purchased for tradition rather than any practical use but were replaced by flared trousers in 1977.
The three white tapes were said to commemorate Nelson’s three great battles – The Nile, Copenhagen and Trafalgar. However there is no truth in this – the Admiralty were at one time considering the merits of two stripes as against three. Sailors were assigned to various jobs according to their skill. … Before 1857 there was no uniform for Royal Navy seamen, who usually wore baggy trousers … The modern sailor’s uniform is the culmination of centuries of tradition and innovation. From silk stockings, frock coats and night caps.
In 1756 a children’s uniform of ’sailor’s dress’ with distinctive leather caps was adopted, instead of the uniform based on what the pensioners wore. …
The sailor’s collar deserves a special mention. Tarred pig tails disappeared rapidly after 1815 and the last is recorded as having been seen at sea in 1827. On the other hand, the first broad collars were worn after 1830. Contrary to popular belief, therefore, the two were never worn together.
Enough sea faring stories; now, the gentleman, endowed with wisdom, true to word and honourable handshake. Bereft of principles; no gentleman.
So, clothes befitting is not distinguishable enough to judge mans true character, he chooses to wear governed by mood, taste, budget, status or advice? A pair of faded jeans and linen shirt and sneakers, or the best cut suit from Savile Row and a pair of Floorshiems for the feet
However it’s what suits the individual taste in fashion. The things that add spice to menswear clothing are the accessories, like silk ties, cravats, or scarves. Men wear label badges as recognition of status or club membership. Then there are endless choices of cufflinks in silver Swarovski crystals and most traditionally enamels.
Even more fortunate for the modern man are designers who mark a new creative direction for men’s clothing and accessories. A few fine examples, Vivienne Westwood, Timothy Everest, Ian Flaherty.
A practitioner of strategic planning in business alignment: He is developing a new brand of fashion accessories for men as a truly independent alternative: Concurrently purveying designer silk ties, silver, crystal and enamel cufflinks, fine leather wallets, plus a collection of jewellery by noted British designers, such as, Vivienne Westwood, Timothy Everest, Ian Flaherty, Veritas, Lbb London, Simon Carter, Michelsons and Shane McCoubrey. Perpetuating traditional English made clothing accessories is part of our ethos.

Important Tips of Fashion Style

fashion style

The term fashion usually applies to a prevailing mode of expression, but quite often applies to a personal mode of expression that may or may not adhere to prevailing ideals. Inherent in the term is the idea that the mode will change more quickly than the culture as a whole. The terms “fashionable” and “unfashionable” are employed to describe whether someone or something fits in with the current popular mode of expression. The term “fashion” is frequently used in a positive sense, as a synonym for glamour and style. In this sense, fashions are a sort of communal art, through which a culture examines its notions of beauty and goodness. The term “fashion” is also sometimes used in a negative sense, as a synonym for fads, trends, and materialism.

How can a (straight) man get a fashion makeover?

man fashion

I’ve seen it on shows like queer eye for the straight guy, but how might I get hair style, clothing etc. advice - any good websites/books out there? Or do I have to just find a fashion sensible girl to advise me on what suits me best (therein lies the vicious circle; look like a bum, don’t get well-dressed girls…)

Trendy Men\’s Fashion Tips

man fashion

Looking good means more than having a fit, cut body. It also means possessing a style that’s all your own. Mens fashion can be everlasting using permanent and classic styles. Men’s fashion and style interest men more today than ever as they realize that looking good is an asset in every aspect of their lives: business, personal, or social. Some men feel confident enough to do this for themselves; for those who are less confident an image consultant can be employed to give help and advice.

If the look is perfect on the runway, that doesn’t mean that it’s perfect for you as a complete copy. While you should use designer’s best trends to guide your look and give it some style, mix-and-match your basics.

Use your favorites from seasons before for a more affordable style that’s completely on-trend. Men’s interview dressing has been fairly static over the years. Many men want fashion freedom, but what they want to wear is a big step from what they wear daily today. It is best to start slowly and build up to total fashion freedom.

Don’t be a slave to flashy branding. Your clothes can have more defined style without necessarily having a logo on them, and when your pieces are subtly stylish, you can wear them more often. This is essential for those of us who tend to hang onto our favorite pair of jeans. A good collection of basics will help you highlight major fashion finds, and can give your trendy pieces more polished style.

A fashion victim is someone who wants to follow all the latest men’s fashion trends regardless of whether they suit his body shape, looks, or age. If you love fashion, that doesn’t mean you need to layer on the accessories. Choose a simple pair of shades, a man bag and a great pair of shoes to round out your wardrobe. There’s no need for a watch, bracelets and necklaces worn all together. Don’t try and make so much of an effort to look fashionable that you end up overdoing it. Keep a good balance of basic and fashionable clothes in your wardrobe. As a rule of thumb, not more than half of your wardrobe should consist of trendy clothes, or worse, clothes that are out of style. Dress to impress for business or pleasure with men’s fashion tips from Men’s Fitness.

Men Fashion Tips

1. Wear what you think looks good, not what others believe is trendy.

2. Don’t try and make so much of an effort to look fashionable that you end up overdoing it.

3. Keep a good balance of basic and fashionable clothes in your wardrobe.

4. Don’t base your look solely on what you see in magazines and on TV.

5. Using the right shampoo will help reduce hair loss and improve the look of any hairstyle.

Indian Fashion: an Overview

fashion style

India is known for its culture and tradition, which have translated well into their clothes. Fashion has been a feature of traditional India. Much like today, they have seen trends come and go, with some making a comeback after a few generations. This adds to the spice of Indian clothing, and it had drawn the eyes of trendy fashion designers in recent years.Traditional Indian fashion features different styles of suits and sari. Later on, variations of fashion styles began coming out and into the welcoming arms of the market, and today, this generation of Indian fashion has fused Indian tradition and Western styles that feature short tops and low-rise jeans that leaves one’s midriff exposed. While styles have been known to come to pass, the Indian sari has retained its image of elegance, grace, and beauty. The sari has been there since the very start, but until now still has a commanding presence on recent fashion styles and trends. Sari is a simple, unassuming piece of rectangular cloth that can be wrapped around the body in a variety of ways. Indian saris are made from different fabrics, among them silk, cotton, crape, and georgettes, among others. They can be adorned and embellished with mirrors, embroidery, patchwork, pearls, and sequins. Some of the most popular saris are Kenjeevaram, hakoba, handloom, patola, phulkari, and chanderi.Salwar Kameez is another type of clothing that has consistently been worn by women from different generations. It originated in the cities of Kashmir and Punjab, but the attire quickly spread to other parts of the country.Indian attire is made beautiful by how it is worn, as well as the designs, patterns, and colors that were incorporated into the attire. Men’s fashion in India has been as healthy as women’s fashion. Men’s wear have also started incorporating batik, tie-dye, and block prints into the traditional suit, making men look just as fashionable and fashion-conscious as women.

Scientific Intervention: the Progress of Fashion Through the Ages

fashion style

1921: Crown Prince Hirohito of Japan commissioned Henry Poole & Co, a respected Savile Row Tailor, to create Westernized suits for his state tour of Britain. A representative of Poole’s sailed to Gibraltar with pattern templates where he met The Crown Prince’s destroyer and cabled measurements to London so the order would be accomplished three weeks later when the Prince was due to reach the UK. Japan consciously embrace western culture and looked to Savile Row as the finest example of suiting.

This is just one episode in its illustrious history. Countless creations have been channelled to the world. If you try and chart the course of style creations, Savile Row is a good place to start.

Thanks to scientific intervention, information could be cabled immediately around the world, similarly to emailing, but far less open to abuse.

Many clothing styles and fashion accessories worn on a day to day basis are often products of an accident or created purely for functional uses. It has taken many decades to achieve “Designer label” status. No Catwalks were apparent, models, or fashion media in the early days of fashion/style creation.

A gradual evolution aided by such brands as Jaeger, who remained at the fore front of style for many decades, using (science) photography in fashion.

Thomas Burberry Noticing how local shepherds and farmers wore linen smocks, which were cool in summer and warm in the winter, he attempted to apply the same principles to other clothing.

In 1879 he developed a fabric which was weatherproofed in the yarn before weaving, using a secret process and then proofed again in the piece, using the same undisclosed formula. The new material was untearable and weatherproof, whilst cool and breathable. He called the cloth ‘gabardine’ and registered the word as a trademark.

It became the choice mackintosh for British officers during the Trench War in Europe, hence the name Trench Coat. It remains true to original form apart from some colour additions

Another example is English Madder Print. The “madder” part of this lovely phrase refers to a natural dye from a Eurasian herbaceous plant, Rubia tinctoria.

Its continuing success through decades of rise and fall owe much too scientific intervention. The colouring agent in madder root called alizarin was in fact first chemically extracted and then synthesized in 1869 by two English chemists. Although the dyeing process, even today, requires a variety of painstaking steps, synthesized alizarin brought the price within the reach of commercial producers.

The fashion industry is a very repetitive one, naturally so, you don’t see many people walking down the street with wearing clothes fresh off the catwalk. Everything is watered down to meet demand. Believe it or not, we’re all very conservative.

We can’t change history but can learn a lot from its turbulent past. Many fashion designers have drawn elements from the past and given them a lick paint to create contemporary men’s fashion accessories

.

During the eighties, Vivienne Westwood did well launching her “Pirates Collection” elements of this are still being mimicked today, and by very conservative brands.

If you’re a dedicated follower of fashion you will have noticed how often the look of the seventies makes regular visits. Style is constant, fashion comes and goes.

Science has underpinned every movement in fashion, evident even more so in today’s high tech world.

The next time to you don the favourite designer silk ties, or admire your collection of cufflinks, remember it’s elementary.

June is the Shortest Month of the Year (in the World of Men’s Fashion, That Is!)

man fashion

Every June, shorter men across the U.S. celebrate National Short Men of Style Month. According to U.S. Census Bureau Statistics, it is estimated that there are at least 30 million, professional, American men in the U.S. under 5’9” in height. These men are under-served by the existing retail menswear market, which tends to build their inventory programs around the middle 50% of shoppers, or men 5’9” and above, where profits are strongest. Nonetheless, there are many successful, stylish shorter men out there who make the extra effort to find stylish apparel even under these difficult circumstances. To celebrate and encourage those men, ForTheFit.com, an online short men’s e-tailer with headquarters in Orlando, Florida, sponsored National Short Men of Style Month.

Celebrating shorter men’s fashion is a great way to bring attention to the difficult fashion obstacles faced by shorter men, as well as the various ways these can be successfully overcome. For example, Fashion and style guides regularly suggest that shorter men should consider shopping in the boy’s department, or resort to tailoring and alterations. These options are unacceptable to many. The young men’s department offers an inappropriate fit for a man’s shape, regardless of his stature. Further young men’s styles often lack the maturity required by today’s successful, professional man. Alterations or custom tailoring can be viable options, but the process is not for everyone. “Buying clothes that always have to be altered is a pain in the pocketbook,” explains Mary Foster of Tinley Park, Illinois, a frequent shopper for her 5’9” and under husband and son. Greg Cason of Orlando, Florida, takes issue with the cost and time involved in alterations, and prefers to avoid the “extra trips” to get alterations after shopping for pants. Like many stylish shorter men, Mr. Cason has discovered the value in specialty retailers such as ForTheFit.com, who cater to shorter men, “The pants I ordered fit perfectly out of the box” he enthuses.

Shorter men often require trousers with shorter hems, a shorter rise, and smaller waist sizes. Sleeve lengths and the overall proportions of dress and casual shirts and most suiting available off-the-rack are generally too large for shorter men. To stock their online store, For the Fit, Inc.’s buyers look for apparel manufacturers and brands that cut their menswear fashions trimmer and smaller than average, and custom manufacturers apparel in sizes proportioned for their target audience. Jeffrey Bova, the company’s C.F.O., adds, “quality, up to date styles and known brands were sorely missing in this market segment… (this) dissatisfaction with the selection available in smaller sizes was a major factor that drove us to start our company.” Short men’s retailing is still a rather unique concept. Besides For the Fit, Inc., only about five other stores exist nationwide- including the popular Jimmy Au’s in southern California, and Napolean’s Tailor, with two locations in Wisconsin and Illinois.

National Short Men of Style Month was established to celebrate the shorter men, like Mr. Cason, who make the extra-effort to craft excellent personal style, despite the difficulties and limited shopping resources available to shorter men. Though the event has been celebrated since 2005, For the Fit, Inc. is proud to announce its sponsorship of some new additions to the festivities. First, they will be publishing their first ever list of the most stylish male celebrities under 5’9.” “Many people are surprised at how many of their favorite celebrities are men under 5’9”,” notes Mr. Bova, “these men know how to make their talent and style take center stage- not their height. There is a lot we can learn from them.” In addition, 2008 brings the first annual “National Short Man of Style” competition- a contest to find America’s most stylish shorter man. Contestants will write a short essay and enter a photograph of themselves looking their best for a chance to win prizes such as a new wardrobe or a new suit ensemble from ForTheFit.com. Contest entries can be submitted online through June 15th 2008 at ShortMenofStyle.com. Visit the website soon- remember June is the shortest month of the men’s fashion year.

Do you Look Good on the Dance Floor? Indie-rock Musicians Initiate a Revolution in Men\’s Fashion

man fashion

The clothes worn by musicians have always sent shockwaves through the fashion industry, helping to stimulate trends that have gone down in history. Today, things are no different. It’s no secret that guitar music has leapt into the charts of late, and that over the last few years, indie-rock groups have become a mainstay in the local media. In fact, music magazines like the NME have been flying off the shelves with the newfound popularity of these bands. However, just as their music has become increasingly ingrained in the mainstream, so too have their fashion trends. From Alex Kapranos, Franz Ferdinand’s front man, to Pete Doherty, indie music has hit the fashion industry hard in recent years - and to good effect.

The idea of popular music artists starting fashion trends is not an alien one; indeed, it is a phenomenon that has gripped our society for decades. During the 1960s in the heyday of The Beatles, many men would wear their hair long, inspired by the style of the Liverpudlian songsters. Similarly, in the 1980s, Michael Jackson’s legendary red zipper jacket - made famous in music videos for Beat It and Thriller - was all the rage, with both men and women donning the fashion item. These clothes helped spark the fashion sense of many generations, as people took inspiration from their favourite musicians in order to create their own look and define the fashion atmosphere of an era.

Today, a variety of modern musicians have helped engender new trends in men’s fashion. Modern rockers Kasabian for example, are featured in the 150th anniversary ad campaign for British fashion label, Burberry. Moreover, Pete Doherty’s relationship with British supermodel Kate Moss has made him a staple figure not just in the mainstream press but in the fashion world as well. Indie rave and electro acts, such as The Klaxons and Brazilian scenesters CSS, have also had a significant impact on musical fashion, with The Klaxon’s bright neon t-shirts and jeans engendering a new generation of cool.

Music and fashion have become so intertwined that the NME’s annual music awards have even incorporated the category of ‘Best Dressed Artist’ in their annual NME Awards Show, this year held on March 1st at Hammersmith Palais. The category is sponsored by Topman, a popular fashion retailer who continue to lead the way in men’s clothes and men’s fashion. Last year’s nominees included Pete Doherty, Alex Kapranos, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, Liam Gallagher and the eventual winner, Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs. The proliferation of indie-rock figures here clearly indicates the influence of such artists in the men’s fashion industry today - a trend which is sure to continue into the future.

About - Latest and Hottest Fashion Style Trends

fashion style

If you run a clothing, jewellery or fashion business, you need to keep up with the latest trends. Your customers come to you expecting fresh looks, and if you can’t provide them, they’ll go elsewhere. These are some tips on keeping one step ahead of your competitors, and making sure you always have the newest styles.

One of the cutest, and most flattering looks, is to pick a jumper that is fitted and rouched at the bust; this creates a swingy shape and gives you room to wear a shirt underneath. Jumpers and pinafore dresses are already very girly, so choose them in neutral shades and compliment them with a shirt that is bold in color. If you’re headed to the farmer’s market, throw on a bright, paper-thin t-shirt underneath and put a pair of flip-flops on your feet; on the opposite end of the spectrum, if you’re going to the office, opt for a more structured blouse, bold, but sans frills, and a pair of ballet flats or wedges. The rouching at the bustline gives this outfit plenty of flair, so jewelry is not necessary.

It’s never too soon to start shopping for prom dresses. When you do, be sure to check out two of the best plus-size lines: Calito and Igigi. If you’re looking for a long formal, first think about the bodice. Do you want wide straps, spaghetti straps, or a strapless formal? Would you prefer that the bodice be fitted or more flowing? (Remember, don’t be afraid to show your curves!)

T-shirt dresses are a staple in many a fashionista’s closet. One of the simplest items to slip on, dress up or down and head to Starbucks in, everyone from Los Angeles to New York City is wearing them. The problem with these is that, traditionally, they have been made to be a bit more clingy; those of us without a personal trainer can be left feeling a bit self-conscience. This year, designers are answering the call to ease up and design a dress that even those of us that are not a size 2 can wear, comfortably and confidently. Showcasing t-shirt dresses with more swing and shift has allowed all of us to enjoy one of the most perfectly perfect clothing items that summer can bring. Another addition has been the drawstring hemlines which give these a sporty look with more volume. Pop these on with sandals or ballet inspired Keds and you can go from morning to evening without ever changing your clothes.

Jeans are the staple of any wardrobe. You can dress them up or dress them down. You can buy them with embellishments, or stick with the traditional five-pocket indigo variety. This season, waistlines are inching up a bit, but finishes and embellishments are very much in vogue.

Lightweight denim is emerging on the scene, often with skinny legs that scrunch up. Bell legs pair with aqua washes and slubbing to give jeans that lived-in look. Jeans that have multi-directional weaves give off an air of sophistication, while detailed back pockets on any pair of jeans brings attention to the wearer.

Keeping up with trends is an ongoing process, and you should set aside some time at least every season to catch up with the latest fashions. Reassuring your customers that you have the newest styles will make them come back to you again and again.

Paris Street Fashion

man fashion

People have many stereotypes. Especially towards the other nations. Some of them are not merely stereotypes but the very truth, while the other are a complete falsehood.

Before going to Paris and meeting the Parisians I used to think the capital citizens are all dressed-up, as if they have just went down the catwalk. And I was surprised when I saw the Parisians with my own eyes. They turned out to be dressed like millions of Europeans – each in his or her way. I mean there are people who keep up with the latest fashion trends and wear only Gucci or Prada. But there are many of them who wear inexpensive brands and don’t care about the caprices of vogue.

So I got interested in the subject. I decided to ask people in the Paris streets what they are in and why.

The first mademoiselle I stopped was Linda. She is a designer and names Pierre Cardin her favourite fashion designer. She answered positively when I asked her if she wore her own clothes. She also buys them in different shops. For instance she likes Morgan and drops in at H&M. She said she doesn’t keep up with the latest trends and creates her own style.

Antuan was my next interviewer. He is an extremely interesting personality I should say. Very elegant and stylish in spite of his age (he’s about 70). He said he is cut out to be a man of fashion. He buys clothes in luxurious designer boutiques but doesn’t follow the fashion laws. He said he would never put on a thing at the season he bought it. No sooner than in a couple of years, he added.

A young couple I talked to turned out to be Scandinavians. They stand out against the background of the other people by an impressive appearance: the girl wears leggings and a shirt with a belt over it. The guys buy clothes at second-hand shops and never read fashion magazines.

Fabrice was the next. He is an expatriate Brazilian. The young man is a dancer and works for Jeune Ballet de Paris. He complained that it’s difficult to live in Paris if you wear clothes that are bright and out of style. But he got used to eccentric items and doesn’t care about the opinion of the society. He prefers to buy clothes at open-air bazaars choosing things he likes. He said he doesn’t keep to any style because he’s an actor and he is fond of transformations.

In northeastern regions of the city live expatriates from Arab and African countries people dress quite differently. They prefer to buy clothes in small stores run by their compatriots. The goods at such stores are of a simple cut, gleam with silver and gold and are decorated with different ethnic elements. Golden rings and big bracelets are all the fashion here. Girls wear jeans with strass and flaring tops, guys sport peaked caps and golden bangles, corpulent women prefer to wear African turbans.

I found out that overwhelming majority of the youngsters do the shopping at Etam and Zara. Those who like something more original drop in at H&M. Lots of them like vintage stores. Sometimes the prices there are so high that the youngsters can afford to pay a visit there only on special occasions. Lots of young people favour second-hand shops. All in all I can say that most Parisians combine things: they wear some brand items with interesting accessories, things brought from abroad trips or articles found in the Grandmother’s wardrobe.

One shouldn’t be afraid of experiments, they say. That is the key to the unique style.

The Fashionable and Well Groomed Modern Man

man fashion

The Fashionable and Well Groomed Modern ManThe modern man has a lot on his plate. The pressure to be good at everything can seem daunting and overwhelming. As if having a good job and raising well adjusted children wasn’t tough enough, they then add emotionally stable, good listener and sensitive. Well time to add one more iron to the fire guys, the modern man needs to also be fashionable and well groomed. Gone are the days where a guy need only look to his fellow man for fashion protocol. I will try and help identify just a handful of common mistakes we as men make in an attempt to prevent you from being the butt of jokes.Grooming IssuesOutdated hair style- A common mistake guys make is keeping a hair style long past when it was “cool”. So you have a great new cut that you think looks wonderful on you, that may be true, but that was back in 1985. Time to try something new.Not sure where to start? Go to a salon (not one of those drive through hair cutting places that charge $12.95). Set an appointment and ask them for their advice. Let them work their magic. They are experts and will take into consideration your needs and wants when determining a style suited best for you.Comb over/ Toupee’s- The sad reality is that some of us will indeed go bald. The absolute worse thing you can do is to try and hide it. The only person you are fooling is yourself. Good news!! Bald is in. So retire the rug and go short. You may want to add some subtle facial hair in order to add depth and interest to your face. Updating your eye wear will also be a great addition to your new look. Choose frames that suit your face and coloring. Stay away from frameless rims for this will not do anything as far as style and image goes.Facial Hair- Keep it trimmed and neat. No one wants to kiss someone only to get a mouthful of whiskers. Invest in a good quality facial hair grooming tool. This will allow you to always fresh and kempt. Ear and Nose Hair- Just because you can’t see it when you look in the mirror, doesn’t mean it isn’t a problem. Invest in a good pair of trimmers and use them weekly.Cologne- As with any style that comes, it also goes. Scent is no different. Yes, Drakar does smell good. However, if you are still wearing it you need to run to the nearest department store and get some help. Remember that 3 to 4 sprays are sufficient, don’t bathe in it or you may run the risk of be offensive. To much of a good thing can be just as off putting as bad body odor.Teeth and Breath- You may not have perfect teeth. However, keep the ones you have clean. Everyone can name someone they know who has incredibly bad breath. Don’t be that person. Brush, floss and use gum or mints if you aren’t sure.Hands and Feet- Take the time to trim your nails and cuticles. If you wear open toed anything, this is even more important. 9 out of 10 men list feet as important on the female attraction scale. It is no different for women. Take the time to manage your own feet and nails, trust me…women notice. Common fashion MistakesSocks with Sandals- Do I really need to explain this?White tube socks with shorts and sneakers- I don’t care if you pull them up or push them down. Go with ankle or athletic socks. The less they are visible the better. This simple change will make your legs and calves look better and give you the allusion of being taller. The wait staff at Hooters gets a pass on this one. Always wear socks that are appropriate and match your outfit. If you think people won’t see them or notice your socks, you would be wrong.Shoes and Belts- These two items should always match. If your shoes are shinny, your belt should be shiny. Black with black and brown with brown. Gold Chains with Pendants- Unless your name is Vinnie, you hail from the north east and drive an I-Roc Z, this is not a good look. If you fit the above description…your awesome and disregard this advice.Spandex Anything- Lance Armstrong can pull it off, you however shouldn’t try.Pleated Pants- News flash, pleats are out and the flat front is in. Pleats tend to make you look larger and shorter than you are. The flat front pant is a sleek and stylish way to freshen up your look and at the same time give you the allusion of being leaner and taller than you are.Jeans with tapered legs- Jeans should fit over the top of your shoes or boots. If they don’t hang but rather bunch at the top of your shoes, it is time to retire them. Acid and stone washed were cool for a minute, but now they aren’t so don’t even think about it.Jean Shorts- I’m not sure how they became popular, however they shouldn’t have. They don’t look good on anyone.Hawaiian Shirts- If you are on a cruise or work at Bahama Breeze they are acceptable. If you don’t fit either of those categories you look like a nerd.Ties with Funny designs- Unless it is “funny tie Friday”, no one thinks it is a good look other than you. Short Sleeve Dress Shirts with Ties- I know it is summer and you get hot. Turn up the A.C. and deal with it. This looks ridiculous.Shoes- Keep them clean, polished and remember it is impossible to “dress up” sneaker.Shoes are one of those items where you get what you pay for. Spend the money on your shoes. Remember that judgments are made about you in the first 10-seconds upon meeting someone. If you are not sure what you are communicating or how you are being received…we can help! alpha m. Past Indian Styles – Back in Future

fashion style

Many of us believe in a saying that fashion whether Indian or western repeats itself. And this century seems to be witnessing this repetition. Though many things have changed in this 21st century, but the best of the past is also being utilized today. Indian fashion is one such evidence of the same.

Those past Indian styles which today’s mom enjoyed in her young days may be still hot in her daughter’s era. It feels good to see past Indian styles coming back in action.

Despite endless arguments on generation gap, it is observed that when it comes to fashion, this gap almost vanishes. Today when a mother and a daughter go out for shopping, they quarrel less on issues like what to wear. This is because this epoch has a strong influence of past Indian styles.

Famous past Indian styles like chudidars, bell-bottoms, trouser with short kurtas, salwar kameez etc were among some popular Indian styles years back. And today again they are back in demand. However, it is worth noticing that though the quality of the fabric has improved to a considerable extent and the variety of such garments is exclusive and extensive. But the style remains the same and very much in vogue.

Those skin tight short kurta styles, bell sleeves, mega sleeves, cut sleeves which your mom enjoyed are back. These past Indian styles are again popular among the masses at large and they will continue to capture more and more audience from all walks of life.

A heavy dress material that is “brocade” was immensely popular long time back. And today we again see the same scenario. Markets are flooded with brocade suits, sarees and lehengas. Girls and ladies of all age wear this material with élan.

Also when it comes to Sarees, earlier ladies used to drape it in Mumtaz Style and even now young girls follow the same style statement. Even in terms of hairstyles, high buns were very common during the past. Now, the parlors charge a hefty amount to make that kind of a hairstyle.

It is no denying fact that people from all walks of life are influenced by the Indian fashion styles of the past. It is a healthy fashion with some value additions. Rest almost everything remains the same. It seems the present India is getting into the shoes of their ancestors at least when it comes to Indian fashion styles. It is a proud feeling to be a part of such an era, which is a fusion of past fashion along with contemporary advancements.

Increasing demand of these past Indian styles, both online and physical stores are trying to keep the best possible range of these Indian fashion style clothes.

www.utsavsarees.com is one among such websites which offers wide variety these Indian fashion clothes resulting in thousands of satisfied customers.

The Cross Is Not A Fashion Statement

man fashion

What is the cross? Was it a medieval tool to ward off vampires? Is it a fashion statement warn by rockers, rappers, and reggae crowds? Is it a bumper sticker on the back of a mini-van or on a chain dangling from a rear view mirror? Or is it a symbol by which many religious people bow? What is the cross?
Simply stated, it was a tool of execution. The Roman Empire invented and used crucifixion as their primary and practical means of carrying out the death penalty. It was primary because it was horrific. It was practical because it sent a terrifying message; the Empire was not to be taken lightly.
Crucifixion was both physical torture while psychologically degrading. It was not meant to break the criminal in order to get him to recant. It was the final death blow, to the body and the spirit. While the physical-medical-scientific aspects of crucifixion can be found in encyclopedias, one thing is for sure, it was a bloody spectacle. Some criminals, if not most, were introduced to the cross after having been flogged. The back, already bloodied and torn by a crude whip, was then placed on a splintered beam, and the wrists and feet were than nailed to the death tree. Nailed!
Death came slowly by way of the cross. With hours of bodily suffering and emotional anguish, the pain and humiliation was too much for any human to bear. Historically we know that many a criminal was crucified during Rome’s reign. It was a common form of capital punishment, just as the electric chair has been in our country. So I have to ask, when have you ever seen someone sporting a miniature electric chair, hangman’s noose, gas chamber, or a syringe from someone’s neck? The cross is not fashionable. It is death.
The difference is not the means of execution, but the man that hung on the cross two thousand years ago. It was not that Jesus was crucified that made the cross a monument throughout history. Many were executed in the same manner. It would be more appropriate to ask, who is this Jesus that died on the rugged cross? And what was His crime?
Skeptics mock Him, while others worship Him. But what did Jesus say of Himself? If you dare, you can take up the Bible for yourself and read the accounts of His life, death, and yes, His resurrection. Jesus makes astounding claims in the Bible. One of the boldest declarations He made was when He told His disciples, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No man comes to the father but by me” (John 14:6). Christ’s statement here is one reason why many find Jesus so unattractive. He was very matter-of-fact. Did He say “I am a way, or one of many ways?” Or, “I am a truth, or one of many truths?” Notice His emphatic use of the word “the.” The wording here means that Jesus is the only way, the only truth, and the life. And what does that imply? Quite simply, all other ways to God and to heaven are false, fabrications, and farces. And all other deities are phonies. Now before you pick up stones, remember that these words came out of the mouth of Christ Himself.
Furthermore, if you investigate the Gospel of John you will discover the same Jesus claimed to be the expected Messiah (John 4), said He came from above (John 3), stated that His kingdom is not of this world (John 18), and declared that He and the Father are one (John 10). The same Gospel proclaims that this Jesus created the world and then came in the flesh among His creation (John 1). Jesus is God incarnate. And that is who hung on the cross. That is what makes the cross eminent.
What was Christ’s crime? Other than declaring that He was God and the only way of salvation, He also forgave sins and dined with sinners. For these He was ushered to the cross. But was this not the reason He came into the world, to save sinners? Jesus said of Himself, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).
So the next time you pick up the Bible and read the Gospels, ask yourself if what I wrote here is true? And whenever you see a cross on a church building, around someone’s neck, or tattooed someone’s limb, remember who it was that hung on that cross and that His crucifixion was for our redemption.
