All About Fashion Designing

TEN budding fashion designers displayed their creative collections at a fashion show in Kuantan recently. Their casual evening wear designs won very encouraging reviews from the panel of jury that included renowned Malaysian fashion designer Bill Keith and Associate Professors Najib Mohd Nor and Abdul Shukor Ismail of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam. The jury, impressed by what they saw, made the following observation; that the winning designs were not necessarily the best-looking ones but they were the most marketable ones and that they were simple yet elegant outfits which could be used everyday rather than designs that were only suitable for the runway. Nurul Solehi Azman Zaini displayed the Best Collection of designs light blue batik canting made of chiffon, knitted, cotton drill that fitted with the theme Ocean Fashionistas. Siti Shazwani Saad won the Jury’s Special Award for her camouflage leisure collections made of denim and cotton drill. A total of 40 designs, four by each student, were modelled on the runway at a leading hotel, witnessed by some 300 people that included Kolej Shahputra’s executive chairman Datuk Dr Azman Zaini Abdul Ghani.
